Indian Threads

Laura Thomas is an established woven textile artist and designer, making inventive work for contemporary spaces.  Born and brought up in Pembrokeshire, Laura studied at the University of Central England, the Royal College of Art and then undertook a Weave Design Fellowship at the Ann Sutton Foundation.  Laura then established her studio practice in South Wales in 2003 and has worked on a wide range of commissions and projects, alongside being a part-time lecturer at Carmarthen School of Art.  In 2017 Laura was honoured to be invited to undertake an artist residency in the Kachchh region of India, spending time at the Khamir Craft Centre and surrounding area. Laura will talk about the residency and the artwork made in response which can currently be seen at Aberystwyth Arts Centre until the 9th November. This project was devised and curated by Ceri Jones of Fieldwork with funding from the British Council Wales, Wales Arts International and Arts Council Wales.
